Our story

The idea to establish Coggeshall Road, a small, therapeutic alternative provision for young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), was driven by a shared passion for change. Jonny and I were inspired by our firsthand experiences.

We recognise how young people with SEND have untapped potential, we share a vision to create an inclusive and empowering environment that is nurturing and provides bespoke academic support to young people.

Having worked within SEN education for a combined 30 years,  we could see that there was an opportunity for us to make our own little difference in these young people’s lives by creating a place that values, nurtures, and enables young people to reach their potential.

In our many excitable discussions, we envisioned a place where education would be integrated with therapeutic support—a safe, welcoming space where young people can learn, grow, and develop essential life skills at their own pace.

The concept of Coggeshall Road was born out of this vision: a therapeutic provision tailored to the needs of each young person, combining personalised education with therapeutic intervention through using creativity, art, music, and providing outdoor-learning opportunities, as well as offering core subject qualifications.

We chose the name “Coggeshall Road” after the street where our building is located. A central point in Essex, on the outskirts Earls Colne, located to where we had first imagined our idea. We have found a smart, modern building that has been transformed into a nurturing space filled with a calming influence, sensory equipment, and creative resource.

Our mission is simple yet profound: to provide a space for young people with SEND, by offering them the support to access the tools and confidence to navigate the world on their terms and make progress educationally, socially and emotionally.

Coggeshall Road has become more than just a place; it has become a beacon of possibility for those who need it.

We have a small team of professionals that can deliver on our vision and our mission.

A group of caring, nurturing individuals, who form a collective, it has enabled us to create the environment we know young people will thrive in.
