Discover the Power of Music
Do you love music? Do you listen to music to help you relax or focus? Have you ever wanted to learn a musical instrument or compose your own music? At Coggeshall Road Therapeutic Provision, our Music Department is dedicated to nurturing your passion for music through a practical, hands-on approach that’s both fun and therapeutic.
A Curriculum Tailored for You
Our music curriculum is designed to engage students with a variety of interests and needs, and is personalised to each individual. Whether you’re a beginner eager to pick up an instrument or sing, or someone who enjoys the soothing aspects of music, we have something for everyone:
Performing: Students can learn to play music that they love on the piano, keyboard, guitar, ukulele, drum-kit, or voice, or bring in other instruments of their own if they wish. Whether you’re a complete beginner or already play an instrument, you will be supported to progress and achieve, gaining confidence and skills as you go.
Composing: Students can use music technology software such as BandLab to create their own music by programming in drum loops and using samples and virtual or live instruments to experiment. Song-writing and composing on any instrument is also encouraged, and can be a valuable outlet for self-expression.
Therapeutic music: For students who enjoy music but may not wish to learn an instrument, we offer music as a therapeutic opportunity, providing an outlet for sensory needs, emotional regulation and building self-esteem and communication skills.
AQA Unit Awards: Students have the opportunity to work towards gaining unit award qualifications, based on their musical interests. There are a wide range of awards, and students have recently been working towards or achieved unit awards in ‘Musical theatre’, ‘Researching a period of popular music’, ‘Foundation in rock and pop guitar’, ‘Well-being, self-expression and musical identity’, ‘Playing music in a band’, ‘Preparing and performing a short set of songs’, and ‘Performance on an electronic keyboard’.
